After 15 years as a practicing psychotherapist, I decided to become a Los Angeles Life Coach. I still keep office hours and see clients in my Los Angeles office.
People from all over the world were emailing me and asking if I could work with them on the phone. As a psychotherapist, I can’t do that. But as a life coach, I can.
What is a Life Coach?
A Life Coach, much like any kind of coach, helps people to be more effective and live with more ease and less stress. I teach my clients how to think in a completely different way than we were all trained to think. We are biologically hard-wired to look for danger. The reptilian brain (lower brain) has as it’s purpose survival. In cave man days we would walk out of our cave in the morning looking for danger because we could easily get attacked by a lion or bear. I use solution- focused coaching, which developed out of solution-focused therapy, to teach in my clients how to see and become conscious of what they are already doing that is working. Then I teach them to how to look for what’s right instead of what’s wrong. When we pay attention to something it increases and grows. Then we start to build on and expand the resources a person naturally has. This leads to more confidence and optimism.
A Life Coach makes sure you are accountable to the steps of your path.
A Life Coach takes a very active role where I meet or talk with you once a week and each week you make a commitment to one small step that moves you toward the desired goal you are wanting. Sometimes the small step will be just to notice something throughout the week. This will make you aware of something you had not been aware of before.
I also draw from a number of other disciplines, including sociology, psychology, career counseling, values assessment, NLP, behavior modification,EFT, EMDR, behavior modeling, goal-setting and many other techniques . Each client has different needs and personality styles and I taylor my coaching to fit each individual.
As a Life Coach, I can help you through all the twists, turns and bumps in the road and I can coach you through transitions such as:
Divorce
The Breakup of a relationship
Bringing new life into an established relationship
Finding your potential and discovering what you really love
Feeling stuck in your career
Mid Life Crises
Launching yourself after college
How to feel passionate about your life
Managing children in blended families
Having a life coach is especially convenient for people who travel most of the time and want to have a regular coaching session each week because it is done on the phone or Skype.
